Subject
Fr. Van Dyke shoveling during construction on campus
Description
Father Francis Van Dyke digs the first shovel of earth for the new Francis H. Boyle hall in 1915. In September 1916, the cornerstone was laid, with a blessing from Bishop Paul Rhode. It was Francis H. Boyle himself who laid the stone. The building was completed in the summer of 1917.
The new hall was the first building on campus to be constructed with donated dollars, and marked a period of growth for the college.
