Academics
Academic life was and is obviously the strongest sector of life at St. Norbert College. As the world transformed with time, the College itself did also. The College saw changes in technology, such as the typewriter and even the computer. It also saw changes in classroom formats as professors began to have discussion-based classes. This concept of discussion and active participation was a new one to most higher-educational institutions, and helped strengthen the sense of community involvment that is key to Norbertine Rule.
Student life was comprised of many parts, and during the World Wars and other times of unrest, Student Life was often a mesh of Military life, Academic life, and Political life. St. Norbert College was to students and the Abbeys are to the Norbertines; a safe 'haven' in which education, knowledge, and religion can be learned, taught, and practiced together.
Student Life was also often times paralled with community life, as the students and faculty at the College were active members of their community as well as on campus. There was a St. Norbert Elementary School on campus, and holiday festivities and parades were held on the campus roads and lawns. The Norbertine Order calls its members to a life based on the welfare of its community, and the Norbertine Spirit could (and still can be) felt on and off campus.
